Tweeted to my Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (Feb. 24, 2019):
Reasons for the House of Representatives to start IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS, ASAP.
1. The process will
–EXPOSE much information in real time for all to see & hear
–DISTRACT the administration from other things
–RELIEVE the national stress of waiting for action
–UNITE & FOCUS the country’s attention
2. This is your job. It’s not mine and it’s not the job of most Americans. This job belongs to 435 people.
3. The rest of us can take care of everything else — draft the Green New Deal, keep our eyes on women’s reproductive health, take care of the children, etc.
Only the House of Representatives can pull the emergency brake on this nightmare and start impeachment hearings.

Jan —
This is a moment of truth — in the U.S., in the Democratic Party, in Evanston politics. Beginning impeachment hearings is exactly what this country needs to
–UNITE & FOCUS the country’s attention
–EXPOSE much information in real time for all to see & hear
–DISTRACT the administration from other things
–RELIEVE the national stress of waiting for the 2020 elections without acting
Only the House of Representatives can pull the emergency brake on this nightmare and start impeachment hearings.
The rest of us can take care of everything else — draft the Green New Deal, keep our eyes on women’s reproductive health, work on reuniting families at the border, expand voting rights, etc.
Contrary to Speaker Pelosi’s comments, honest divisiveness is exactly what this country needs at this moment. It’s what makes good labor negotiations. Everyone needs to answer the question: Which side are you on? Only then can we come to some meaningful consensus about the direction of the U.S.
Impeachment proceedings are the beginning of that honest and truth-telling process.
Thank you for your service.
